Growing succulents in wet or humid areas: tips & tricks

Succulents are well-adapted to survive drought but with a little extra care you can also get certain varieties to survive in wet or humid climates.

Improve Drainage

  • Plant in gritty, well-draining soil like succulent / cactus soil from a garden center

  • Amend heavy garden soil with 50% coarse sand by volume
  • Plant in raised beds and containers with drainage holes
  • Move pots under roofs or put clear, plastic sheeting at least 18" above beds during the rainy season
